Where are you going Wednesday?
Assuming fields will be playable after Sunday's Nor'easter, there are plenty of Southern Connecticut Conference division baseball games pitting rivals against one another Wednesday afternoon.
None are bigger and better than Amity at Shelton. The last time these two teams met, back on May 8th of last year, Shelton won 3-2 in 12 innings. That was Amity's first Housatonic Division loss in three years. Expect to see Max Russell toe the rubber for Amity, which tied Shelton for the division title last year based on that one result.
Another good one is Branford at North Haven: Legendary North Haven coach Bobby DeMayo and his state-leading 755 career wins up against Branford coming off a Class L championship. The winner here gets an early leg up in the SCC Oronoque, although I still like to think they are both still in the Hammonasset, or even the old Housatonic League.
Then there is the battle of West Haven at Quigley Stadium. West Haven and Notre Dame are trying to bounce back off subpar seasons in 2006 and remain in the thick of things in the Quinnipiac. Another Quinnipiac battle has Xavier travelling to Hamden.
Other division games include Foran at Hand, Sheehan at Cheshire and Wilbur Cross at East Haven.
So where will you be on Wednesday afternoon?
Interesting note out of Seymour: Not only are the Wildcats undefeated at 4-0, but a freshman by the name of Danny Perez hit one of three home runs in Seymour's 6-0 win over Kennedy. Yes, that is the younger brother of former Seymour standout Jay Perez, who played in the minor leagues for the Houston Astros.
