Carlson qualifies for US Junior Amateur
Brian Carlson of Madison was a co-medalist at the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier held Monday and Tuesday at Fairview Country Club in Greenwich.
Carlson, who will be a senior at Hand High School, shot a two-round total of 2-over-par 146 (74-72). Theo Humphrey of Greenwich also shot 146. The other two qualifiers were Matt Lowe (Farmingdale, N.Y., 147) and Cameron Young (Scarborough, N.Y., 148).
All four golfers move on to the U.S. Junior Amateur July 22-27 at Martis Camp in Truckee, Calif.
“It’s going to be fun to play against the best juniors in the country,” Carlson said.
Carlson got in 27 holes on Monday before darkness postponed his final nine holes until Tuesday. He was 1-over through 27 holes. He said he hit just one of seven fairways Tuesday but managed to shoot just 1-over.
