Shelton coach on the horizon?
Lost in all the Rumorville of who will be the next Wilbur Cross boys' basketball coach is the other boys' basketball opening in the Southern Connecticut Conference: Shelton. That may be resolved Wednesday evening.
The agenda lists Brian Gardiner, an assistant the past few years at the school, to be the appointed choice to succeed longtime mentor Joe Sedlock. The Shelton Board of Education holds its monthly meeting Wednesday evening and they will have to approve it to become official. But sources have indicated that this appointment has been put off the past few meetings.
Those same sources indicated that Shelton Mayor Mark A. Lauretti was interested in the position, or at least to be a part of the staff. Lauretti formerly coached at Bridgeport Central in the 1990s.
This process has taken even longer than the Wilbur Cross one has: Sedlock resigned back in March. Jim Reynolds did the same thing in May at Cross.
