Live from Cromwell
We are about to settle into the inaugural Travelers Championship and there's a good field in place. Yes, Phil Micklelson withdrew on doctor's orders, but Vijay Singh, Padraig Harrington, Masers champion Zach Johnson and defending champion J.J. Henry highlight a stellar field.
You can purchase tickets on-line for $25 (www.travelerschampionship.com) or at the gate $32. The new driving range being constructed should literally take your breath away. There is a different feel to this year's event. Let's hope it turns into another good tournament in 2007.
So, my three picks for this week are:
Nick O'Hern: This Aussie has beaten Tiger Woods not once, but twice in the World Match Play event, including this year to end Tiger's seven-tournament winning streak. He is one of the tour's shorter hitters, but on this course, he can get away with it.
Ryan Moore: Finished tied for second last year behind Henry and, like O'Hern, still searching for his first tour win.
Corey Pavin: A sentimental choice here who has performed well on this course in recent years. Has some confidence after winning on topur last season for the first time since 1996.
