It's tourney time!

League playoffs begin Tuesday in baseball. The Southern Connecticut Conference first round is at West Haven High Tuesday, then the semifinals (Thursday) and finals (Friday night or Saturday at noon) are at Yale Field. Everyone is chasing Amity, which is going for a fourth straight title. Some teams have come close, but with Max Russell, Kyle Birdsall and Jason Esposito toeing the rubber, the Spartans will be tough to beat.
In the Shoreline Conference, Haddam-Killingworth has had a surprsingly good year after longtime head coach Mark Brookes said during the preseason it would be a rebuilding year. The Cougars will be the top seed and will open defense of their championship against North Branford in the semifinals. Old Lyme and Portland will square off in the other. If Old Lyme wins, it will be a rematch of last year's final. The championship game will be Friday at the Indian River Complex in Clinton.
Norwalk and Masuk will be the respective top seeds in the FCIAC and South-West Conference tournaments, respectively, beginning Tuesday. The FCIAC final will be Saturday at noon at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport while the SWC final is scheduled for Friday night at Bethel High.
And as a reminder, the state tournament pairings will be out on Friday with first-round games beginning on May 29.
Good luck to everyone in the tournament.
