Class M girls soccer already postponed

The CIAC have already postponed Thursday's Class M semifinals for girls soccer.

Lauralton Hall play Suffield now on Friday at 5 p.m. at Rocky Hill. St. Joseph and Avon play Friday at 6:30 in New Canaan. That means the Class M final will not be played until Sunday at the earliest because they will not allow teams to play back-to-back days.

What I don't understand is why the CIAC would put the semis at a place like Naugatuck if they knew the facility could not take on any water.

The answer is obvious. The CIAC, like in other sports, do not have enough facilities available to them. Now the teams have to wait until Friday because there were not enough facilities to go around to play on Wednesday.

The CIAC cannot be blamed entirely for this: It's not their fault if schools do not wish to put up their sites for games. But it is not fair to the student-athletes at these four schools that they have had to wait a full week to play a state tournament game. The quarterfinals were last Friday.

It is absolutely ridiculous.
