The Masters is upon us
It's been awhile since you read a blog here. Morelli's Musings is now reserved for my golf commentary only.
With the Masters beginning this week, this is when people really begin to tune in to the golf season. The excitement began to pick up last Sunday when Tiger Woods won for the first time since returning from his knee injury at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, making a birdie on the final hole in the dark to win by one shot.
Tiger is the prohibitive favorite at Augusta National, followed by Phil Mickelson. Don't be surprised if you see Geoff Ogilvy in contention this year. He's already won twice on tour this season.
Another Australian, Greg Norman, makes his first appearance here since 2003. He received the invite for finishing third in last year's British Open. The 54-year-old is known more for his failures here than anywhere else. Here's hoping he has a good showing.
Travelers tournament director Nathan Grube said he will be traveling to Augusta this week to do some recruiting for his own tournament, which is June 25-28 at TPC River Highlands. A good field is expected because it follows the U.S. Open, which will be held at Bethpage Black on Long Island.
Keep checking back here to see which players commit to the Travelers for the 2009 tournament.
