Higgins wins NE Amateur

Brian Higgins of Massachusetts fired a 3-under-par 67 in Thursday's final round to win the 81st New England Amateur Championship at the Course at Yale.
Higgins trailed second-round leader Devin Komline by 4 heading into the final round. His winning 54-hole score was 6-under-par 204.
Michael Ballo of Darien, Colin Brennan of Massachusetts and Josh Briere of Vermont tied for second 1 shot behind Higgins, who win the Yale Intercollegiate Tournament here 15 years ago when he was a college golfer at the University of New Hampshire.
Tom McCarthy, a senior-to-be at Yale University, birdied the ninth hole to give himself a 2-shot lead going into the final nine holes, but he bogeyed 10, missed short birdie putts at 11 and 16, then finished with a 72 to tie for sixth place at 207.
