Caron set to defend CT Open

Jason Caron (pictured, right) doesn’t play much competitive golf these days. With a full-time job and a baby who is six months old, it’s easy to understand why.

Caron, a teaching pro at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, N.Y., gets to drive home to Stamford every day to wife Elizabeth and daughter Caroline. The days competing on the PGA, Web.Com and Hooters tours are long gone.

“I spend most of my time teaching now,” said Caron, who will defend his title at the 79th Connecticut Open beginning Monday at Torrington CC. “As soon as I get out of there, I want to go home and hang out (with his family). There’s definite changes in life once you have a child. It’s a lot of fun.”

Caron, who turned 41 last Thursday, said he has played just 10 competitive rounds this year, including three tournaments: the Massachusetts Open (placed third), the Westchester (N.Y.) Open (6th) and the New York Open (tied for 21st), which he played in last week at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y.
