Rainaud wins CT Section Match Play

Adam Rainaud of the Black Hall Club defeated top seed and defending champion William Street (New Haven CC) 4 and 3 to win the 24th Connecticut Section PGA Match Play Championship Wednesday at New Haven CC.

Rainaud, who has already earned the Section’s Player of the Year honors, beat Race Brook CC head pro and No. 14 seed Paul Barnsley 5 and 4 in the morning semifinals while Street defeated No. 4 Billy Downes (Hampden, Mass.) 2 and 1.

This is the fourth Connecticut Section PGA victory of the season for Rainaud, making him the first member of the section to accomplish the feat. Rainaud won the 83rd Connecticut PGA Championship, the Assistants Championship and the PGA Professional Championship. Rainaud was also the only member of the section to qualify for the Travelers Championship in June.
