Geoff Vartelas has been a contender in several Connecticut State Golf Association events over the past few years.

Vartelas, who plays out of Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield, has had more success in the Palmer Cup than any other CSGA event. He finished in ninth place in both 2013 and 2014 was seventh on Tuesday. All three times the Palmer Cup was played at Country Club of Waterbury.


“I thought (a great round) was definitely out there if you kept the ball in play off the tee and gave yourself looks,” Vartelas said. “You could definitely roll putts on these greens.”



But this time, the top 10 finish probably stings a little bit. Vartelas led after the opening round on Monday, but shot over par in each of his next two rounds.
