Two PGA legends pass away

Two former PGA Tour pros and former winners of the Insurance City Open died this week.

The most recent was Billy Casper Saturday night at 83. A three-time major championship winner, Casper won the ICO, now known as the Travelers Championship four times (1963, 1965, 1968 and 1973) all at Wethersfield Country Club. No other player has won the event more than twice.

Billy Casper Golf manages many golf course propertiess across the country, including several in Connecticut. One of them is Lyman Orchards GC in Middlefield, where Casper made his final public appearance in Connecticut in May of 2013.

Charlie Sifford, the first African-American on the PGA Tour, passed away on Tuesday at 92. His first win on tour was the 1967 ICO.
