How will the move to August affect the Travelers Championship field?

Bubba Watson holds the championship trophy after winning the 2015 Travelers Championship.

Normally at this point of the PGA Tour season, players tune up for the U.S. Open and then begin the summer stretch of their season-long schedule. That normally begins with the Travelers Championship.

While the Open’s final round remains on Father’s Day, the Quickens Loans Invitational has moved into the Travelers traditional spot on the schedule. For one year, the PGA Tour’s summer schedule has been completely revamped due to golf returning to the Summer Olympics in August.

The Travelers will be held the first week in August for this year only. The tournament will still follow a major — this time the PGA Championship — and will be held the week before the golfers actually compete in the Olympics.

Which begs the obvious question: With the best players in the world expected to play in both the PGA and the Olympics, how many of the world’s top players will show up to play at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell?
