Wethersfield CC set to host State Amateur

The par-3 17th hole at Wethersfield Country Club, site of this week’s Connecticut Amateur championship.

Wethersfield Country Club (above) wanted to have something special to go along with the club’s 100th anniversary this season.

So when the club contacted the Connecticut State Golf Association about a decade ago, the hope was to get one of the CSGA’s major tournaments to come to Wethersfield CC. The tournament awarded was the State Amateur championship, the fifth time Wethersfield CC will host the Amateur. The 114th edition of the Amateur begins on Monday and concludes with the 36-hole match play final on Friday,

“Our club loves to host big tournaments and it was important to have it in our 100th season,” Wethersfield CC head pro Ron Dellostritto said.

Dellostritto said that Woodway CC in Darien had called the CSGA earlier that year asking the same thing for its 100th anniversary, which also takes place this year. The CSGA awarded Woodway the Connecticut Open, to be held in late July.
