Green to play in Connecticut Open
Danbury native Ken Green has registered to play in the 76th Connecticut Open championship July 26-28 at Country Club of Fairfield. The last time Green played in the Open was in 2006 at Ridgewood CC in Danbury, where he had to withdraw because of a bad back.
Green, now a menber of the Champions Tour, has been through a whirlwind the past year. Last June, he was driving his RV in Mississippi when the right front tire blew out, causing the vehicle to crash. The accident killed his brother, his girlfriend and his dog. Green's lower right leg was amputated, but he has come back to play competitively.
Last January, Green's son died of a drug overdose.
Green is a two-time Open champion, winning in 1985 at New Haven CC and in 1992 at Ridgewood.
