Amateurs make it a three-peat

The Connecticut State Golf Association Amateurs won the Julius Boros Challenge Cup for the third straight year, defeating the Connecticut Section professionals 34.5-28.5 at New Haven Country Club. It was the 40th edition of the tournament.

Amateur rookies Tom McCarthy, a senior at Yale University, and Aaron Gross, the reigning club champion at New Haven CC, were among the singles winners Thursday, along with veteran Bill Lee from the Course at Yale.

Bill Wallis and William Street, the head and assistant pro at New Haven CC, also won their singles matches for the CT Section PGA.
