McCarthy wins CT Publinx crown

Former Yale University golfer Tom McCarthy shot a 1-over-par 73 Tuesday, but it was still good enough to win the 27th Connecticut Public Links Championship by four shots over Rudy Hermstadt at Smith Richardson Golf Club.

McCarthy, who graduated from Yale in 2011 and is a member at Twin Hills CC, shot a two-round total of 2-under 142 to take the title. Hermstadt (Crestbrook Park GC) posted a 146, followed by Chris Cote (Portland GC) and Kevin Josephson (Stanley GC) at 4-over 148. Richard Shildneck and Gene Cufone, both of Alling Memorial GC, tied for 12th (153) and 14th (155), respectively.
