Gallo leads Connecticut Open

Kyle Gallo of Hop Meadow Country Club in Simsbury fired a 5-under-par 65 to lead by two shots following the opening round of the 76th Connecticut Open at the Country Club of Fairfield.

Gallo is trying to win the Open for the fourth time. He won it the last time the event was played at CC of Fairfield 10 years ago. He was paired with Ken Green, the current Champions Tour player who now plays with a prosthetic right leg as a result of an RV accident nearly 14 months ago.

That accident, in which Green was driving, took the life of his brother, girlfriend and dog. Green shot a 74 and was in pain during his round. He was hoping to make it back for Tuesday's second round.

Cody Palladino and Brian Murphy each shot 67 to trail Gallo by two. Evan Beirne and Dave Szewczul are another shot back, tied for fourth place.
