Ahern wins state Mid-Amateur title
Brian Ahern from Wampanoag Country Club posted rounds of 70 and 73 Tuesday to win the 23rd Connecticut Mid-Amateur Championship at Rockrimmon CC in Stamford. Ahern had a three-round total of 3-under-par 213.
Ahern was the only player under par for the championship. Jeff Hedden, the 2009 champion from the Black Hall Club, was the runner-up, 5 strokes behind Ahern at 2-over 218. Robert Diskin (Rockrimmon CC) finished third at 4-over 220.
Jim Gentile, Monday's first-round leader from Rockledge GC, shot rounds of 78 and 77 to tie for sixth place at 6-over 222.
