Grenus, Reilly advance to State Amateur final
OLD LYME >> Eighteen holes wasn’t enough for Evan Grenus (above) to win any of his first three matches in the Connecticut Amateur. All were decided in extra holes.
So it seemed match No. 4 on Thursday afternoon, against the defending champion, would also be decided late, right?
Grenus made sure that didn’t happen.
He made five birdies in 12 holes in his semifinal-round match to defeat Zach Zaback 7 and 6 and advance to Friday’s 36-hole final at the Black Hall Club.
Grenus will face Greg Reilly (below) from Country Club of Darien in Friday’s final, which begins at 7:30 a.m. Reilly parred the 18th hole to beat C.J. Swift of Great River GC in Milford 1-up.
