Change of date for Travelers?

The Travelers Championship golf tournament has followed the U.S. Open the past four years. Travelers has publicly stated how happy it is being situated in that spot and has committed to title sponsorship of the tournament through 2014.
But that hasn't stopped specualation of the event moving. Two years ago, May was a possibility when the AT&T Classic in Georgia folded. The Texas Open took that spot on the calendar.
Now potentially comes an even bigger spot on the calenday - Labor Day weekend. Bruce Berlet of ctgolfer.com wrote a good column that can be found here.
It details how Deutsche Bank has an option to extend its involvement in the tournament through 2012, but has yet to make a decision. That will be made during the week of the tournament Aug. 30-Sept. 6.
If Deutsche Bank pulls out, there could be an opening right in the middle of the three Fed Ex Cup playoff events. And since the Travelers Championship is the only PGA golf event in New England, it does make sense that Travelers would be interested in moving there and increasing its purse.
But right now, that is all it is - speculation. Still, it's nice to dream about having all of the best players on tour in Cromwell - including Tiger Woods.
