Register poll jinx?

This is my sixth year conducting the high school boys' basketball poll and Hartford Public made its first appearance during that time period this week.
Now, Public might be on the way out after getting dusted by Glastonbury Wednesday night 63-44 behind John Pinone's 22 points. If that name rings a bell, it should: Pinone was a former schoolboy star at South Catholic High in Hartford, then went on to Villanova.

So who steps into the poll next week: Xavier? St. Joseph? Northwest Catholic?

We shall see....

Standing room only Friday night?

There was a pretty good crowd at Wilbur Cross Wednesday night to watch the host Governors storm from 23 points down to beat Career in double overtime. A similar crowd is expected Friday night when undefeated Xavier plays at undefeated Wilbur Cross.
Xavier features Brian Fitzpatrick, Shawn Holley and a host of others who tend to run coach Mike Kohs' rigid half-court set to perfection. The Falcons need to keep the score in the 50s and need to at least keep it close to even on the boards to win.
Cross will definitely have to play better than it did against Career. Markus Wright usually is at his peak in the biggest games, so he should be at full throttle for the full 32 minutes. Louis Pittman and his fellow teammates will need to keep the Falcons honest on the perimeter.
A win here would mean the Governors are deserving of the Register poll's No. 3 ranking. A win by Xavier should give the visitors some very serious consideration for the top 10.
Should be an exciting atmosphere in the city Friday night.
