Gleeton qualifies for Travelers

By winning the Spring PGA Stroke Play Championship on Tuesday at Hop Meadow Country Club in Simsbury, Tom Gleeton of Cheshire qualified for the Travelers Championship to be played June 24-27 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.

This is the fourth time Gleeton, the longtime head pro at CC of Waterbury, has qualified for this tournament. The first time was in 1986, when he was playing on the tour. Then he qualified in back-to-back years in 2004-05. All three times, Gleeton missed the cut.

The next qualifier for the Travelers will be held June 21 where four spots will be available.

Average Joe takes on CC of Woodbridge

The name has changed and it is now a public facility rather than a private course, but CC of Woodbridge is still a formidable course, especially the par-3 third hole, which Average Joe attempts to play this week against head pro Ed Grant. You can see it online at our web site, www.nhregister.com, on Thursday.

You can also read about it in Thursday's editions, in addition to the weekly notebook, including ways to get discounted tickets to the Travelers Championship next month.
