Tiger withdraws

Tiger Woods withdrew from the Players Championship for the second straight year due to injury.
He withdrew after just nine holes due to re-injuring his left knee and Achilles tendon which he originally hurt at the Masters and had not played since. Woods posted a front-nine 42 before pulling out.

When he announced he was not playing Wells Fargo last week due to the injury, I tweeted that he would not return until the Memorial. Now that tournament, and possibly the US Open are in doubt. And even if he does play, he won't be close to 100 percent so it will be hard for him to be in contention.

When the Open arrives next month, it will be three years since Tiger's last major championship. With each one that passes, it gets that much harder for him to pass Jack Nicklaus' total of 18. Nicklaus' key was his longevity - he won three majors in his 40s.

His body was not breaking down like Tiger's is now. At age 36, Tiger's prime golf years are quickly slipping away.

Travelers update

In Sunday's editions and on www.nhregister.com Sunday morning, read about how Travelers Championship tournament director Nathan Grube's approach to how he recruits players versus when he first started five years ago and the new policy on cell phones at the tournament this year.

Huey Lewis, Eddie Money to perform at Travelers Championship

Travelers Championship officials today announced a partnership with The REACH Foundation to host the REACH Concert Series during tournament week.
Eddie Money will perform on Wednesday, June 22, while Huey Lewis and the News will perform on Saturday, June 25. The concerts will begin around 7 p.m. – right after the last golfer of the day finishes his round – and will be held in the Subway Fan Zone located in the center of the course.
Fans can attend the REACH Concert Series by purchasing an Any One Day Ticket, which gives fans access to the tournament and all of the entertainment throughout the day.
The Travelers Championship and The Reach Foundation are holding the concerts to raise money and awareness to support charitable organizations and programs focusing on children in need.
