Bango qualifies for CSGA Senior Amateur

Jim Bango of North Haven shot a 1-under-par 71 Tuesday at Torrington Country Club to to qualify for the USGA Senior Amateur.
Dave Szewczul of Farmington was the medalist with a 4-under 68 and John Ervasti (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also qualified with a even-par 72. The three golfers will compete in the 57th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship, which will be held Sept. 29 through Oct. 4 at Mountain Ridge CC in West Caldwell, N.J.

Bilodeau wins Assistant Championship

Kyle Bilodeau, an assistant pro at Race Brook Country Club, fired an even-par 144 in the one-day, 36-hole 50th National Car Rental Connecticut PGA Assistant Championship at Bull's Bridge Golf Club in South Kent to capture his first championship title.

Bilodeau will be joined by second place finisher, Adam D’Amario of Indian Hill CC with a one-over-par 145 and playoff winner Timothy Buczak of Quarry Ridge Golf Course with a two-over-par 146 in the 36th National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship, Nov. 1-4, 2012 at The PGA Golf Club (Wanamaker Course) in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Hawkes is CT Section Junior Girl Player of the Year

MacKenzie Hawkes of Madison finished second in the Jack Kelly Junior Tournament of Champions Sunday and compiled enough points to hold off Jenn Whaley to earn the Connecticut Section's Junior Girls' Player of the Year race.

Hawkes, who shot a 3-over-par 74 in the tournament held at Shennecossett GC in Groton, finished with 890.83 points.
