Bensel still the one

Frank Bensel from Century CC takes a four-shot lead over Charlie Meola (Fairview CC) and Bobby Gage (Candlewood Valley CC) in the 75th Connecticut Open Tuesday at Hartford Golf Club. All three will be paired together, going off the first tee at 9:40 a.m.
The second round was completed shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday night. 47 players made the cut.

Bensel leads at Connecticut Open

Frank Bensel from Century Country Club in New York leads midway through the second round at the 75th Connecticut Open at the Hartford GC. He posted rounds of 63 and 70, a 133 9-under-par total at the par-71 Hartford Golf Club.
Bobby Gage of Candlewood Valley CC in New Milford is 4 shots back after posting 137.

Monday's first round was suspended for the day midway through due to thunderstorms. It resumed today and the hope is second-round play will be completed in the darkness shortly after 8.

Average Joe is back

After a one-week reprieve with our illustrious columnist Dave Solomon filling my shoes, Average Joe returns to the links this week playing the sixth hole at Guilford Lakes, an 185-yard par-3, against head golf professional Jon Wilson.

In this week's notes, we detail the progress The Course at Yale has made under course superintendent Scott Ramsay since he started over five years ago and what needs to be done to get the course in championship condition for next year's NCAA Division I East Regional.
