Frank Bensel may not officially be the reigning two-time defending Connecticut Open champion, but the Norwalk resident still hasn’t lost at the Connecticut Open in the past three years.
Bensel won his first title at Hartford Golf Club in 2009, but couldn’t defend in 2010 because he had already committed to play in a different tournament. Then he won his second crown last year at Brooklawn CC.
Now Bensel, 44, goes for title No. 3 beginning Monday at Wee Burn CC in Darien, which is hosting the Open for the first time since 1999, and fifth overall. This is the 78th Open.
“Right now, I’m not hitting it great,” Bensel said. “But I plan on playing well and I expect to do well. I’ve always had success in the Connecticut Open.”

Check out more on Bensel, and some key Open tee times for Monday.
