Harrington commits to Travelers

The Travelers Championship landed a huge name Friday when three-time majors winner Padraig Harrington committed to a second appearance at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.
Harrington last played three years ago, tying for 54th place.

Currently 14th in the world golf rankings, Harrington has 21 total career wins internationally. He won the 2007 and 2008 British Open Championships as well as the 2008 PGA Championship. Harrington is a five-time member of the European Ryder Cup squad. He also has played in 11 World Cups and five Dunhill Cups.

Harrington has three top-10 finishes in 2010, with his best finish being a tie for third at the World Golf Championships – CA Championship. He is currently ranked 49th on the tour money list. He is currently the highest ranked player in the field.

Harrington will join already committed players Kenny Perry, Vijay Singh, Hunter Mahan, Stewart Cink, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, John Daly, Rickie Fowler and more. The Travelers will be held June 21–27. Entries close next Friday.

Foster wins CWGA Championship

Lynda Foster of Madison Country Club won her second Connecticut Women's Golf Association championship Friday, beating Jean Sennett (Wapanoag CC) 12 and 10 at CC of Farmington.

Foster won her first title five years ago, also against Sennett, at Shuttle Meadow CC.

Foster will now defend her Sanford Cup title nxt week at Woodway CC in Darien. The Sanford Cup is a smilar event (match play) to the CWGA Championship.

Adam Scott among latest commitments to Travelers

The Travelers Championship announces three more commitments to the player field.
Adam Scott, Charles Howell III and Brian Davis will all be at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, when the tournament begins June 24-27. Scott will be making his first appearance at the Travelers Championship, while Howell and Davis will be competing for a sixth time.

Scott, winner of the 2010 Valero Texas Open, has seven career victories on the tour and is currently ranked 22nd in the FedExCup standings. Scott became the youngest winner ever of THE PLAYERS Championship in 2004 at the age of 23.

Two-time PGA TOUR winner and 2001 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year, Howell III has earned three top-10 finishes in 2010, with his best finish being a tie for fourth at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in late-February. Howellappeared here as an amateur when he was a member of the AJGA.

Currently ranked 26th in the FedExCup standings, Davis has earned two runner-up finishes in 2010, with the most notable occurring at the Verizon Heritage in April. Davis finished second behind Jim Furyk after calling a penalty on himself during the first playoff hole.

These three players join a rapidly growing player field that already includes Kenny Perry, Stewart Cink, Hunter Mahan, Vijay Singh, Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose, David Toms and John Daly.

86-year-old man records an ace

Hamden resident Mickey Devine recorded a hole-in-one at Laurel View Country Club recently. The Register profiles the accomplishment on Thursday.

Mike Francesca coming to TPC

WFAN radio personality Mike Francesca will be visiting TPC River Highlands in Cromwell for the Travelers Championship on June 23. He will be positioned on the clubhouse patio while the Celebrity Pro-Am is going on.

Tuesday June 22 is PGA Play Golf America Day at the TPC. From 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., golfers of all ages can get a 10-minute free lesson from the variety of Connecticut Section PGA professionals who will be on hand at TPC River Highlands' driving range.

There will also be a women's golf clinic held on the driving range from 1-3 p.m.
