Higgins wins NE Amateur

Brian Higgins of Massachusetts fired a 3-under-par 67 in Thursday's final round to win the 81st New England Amateur Championship at the Course at Yale.
Higgins trailed second-round leader Devin Komline by 4 heading into the final round. His winning 54-hole score was 6-under-par 204.
Michael Ballo of Darien, Colin Brennan of Massachusetts and Josh Briere of Vermont tied for second 1 shot behind Higgins, who win the Yale Intercollegiate Tournament here 15 years ago when he was a college golfer at the University of New Hampshire.
Tom McCarthy, a senior-to-be at Yale University, birdied the ninth hole to give himself a 2-shot lead going into the final nine holes, but he bogeyed 10, missed short birdie putts at 11 and 16, then finished with a 72 to tie for sixth place at 207.

Komline still up by 1

Devin Komline of Vermont still leads the New England Amateur by 1 shot over Josh Salah of Massachusetts during the second round at the Course at Yale.

Play was delayed twice by lightning and suspended for good at 7:20 p.m. The second round will resume at 8 a.m. Thursday. Once the round is completed, the field will be cut to the low 40 and ties and the third and final round will start at approximately 10 a.m.

It was originally a 72-hole event.

Play suspended for good at Amateur

The horn to suspend play blew for the third and final time at 7:20 p.m. during the second round of the New England Amateur at the Course at Yale.
The first two delays suspended play for a combined total of almost two hours.
In all likliehood, the tournament will be shortened from 72 to 54 holes to complete play on Thursday.

Play resumes at 6:32 p.m.

Just a 32-minute weather delay this time. With some groups not having completed nine holes yet, the second round of the New England Amateur likely will not be completed until Thursday at the Course at Yale.

Play stopped again at 6 p.m.

The second round of the New England Amateur was halted for the second time at the Course at Yale.
More lightning passing through the area in a state that has had both severe weather and tornado warnings for the past couple of hours.

Play to resume at 5:15 p.m.

The second round of the New England Amateur will resume at 5:15 p.m. at the Course at Yale.

Lightning suspends play at 4 p.m.

The second round of the New England Amateur was suspended at 4 p.m. due to lightning at the Course at Yale. All of the afternoon golfers still need to complete their round.

Vermont's Komline takes lead

Devin Komline of Vermont posted a 6-under-par 64 to take the lead at the midway point of the second round of the 81st New England Amateur championship being played at the Course at Yale.
Komline is at 7-under 133. He leads by 1 currently over Josh Salah of Massachusetts (6-under 134) and by 2 over Yale University senior Tom McCarthy (5-under 135). McCarthy was tied for the second-round lead a year ago in this event.

Jonathan Pannone of Rhode Island, the first-round leader after a 65, teed off at 1:27 p.m.

Yale's McCarthy shoots 66

Tom McCarthy, a member of the Yale University golf team, shot a 4-under-par 66 on his home course Tuesday, tying his best score on the Course at Yale and, more importantly, tying him for second place after the opening round of the New England Amateur championship.

McCarthy was the only member of the afternoon wave of golfers to finish among the top five. Jonathan Pannone of Rhode Island leads after day one with a 5-under 65.

McCarthy, who will be a senior at Yale, was tied for the second-round lead in last year's New England Amateur, but faltered over the final 36 holes, tying for 11th place.

The lowest round from a member at the Course at Yale Tuesday was Ryan Leahey with a 1-over 71.

Pannone early leader at NE Amateur

Jonathan Pannone of Rhode Island shot a 5-under-par 65 to be the first-round leader at the midway point of the 81st New England Amateur at the Course at Yale.
Another player from Rhode Island, Garrett Medeiros, shot a 66, tying him for second place with Richy Wereniski of Massachusetts.
Masayuki Kobayashi of Tumble Brook CC and Cody Paladino of Timberlin GC have the low rounds among Connecticut golfers, each shooting even par 70.
