Janzen, Stegmaier, Beirne among Monday qualifiers

There are always great storylines at the Monday qualifiers for the PGA Tour events. How often do you get a former two-time U.S. Open winner in the field?
Lee Janzen, the winner in 1993 and 1998, will attempt to qualify for the Travelers Championship at Gillette Ridge Golf Club in Bloomfield on Monday. So will pros Evan Beirne and Brett Stegmaier, who hail from New Haven CC, along with former tour winners Robert Gamez, Bob Estes and Patrick Sheehan.

Bubba, Mahan in video

Defending Travelers Championship winner Bubba Watson, along with 2007 champion Hunter Mahan, Rickie Fowler and Ben Crane (the only one not yet scheduled to play next week) are starred in this 2-plus minute video that has gotten plenty of attention.

Not sure if Bubba Watson brought a clip when he met President Obama earlier this week. Pretty hillarious stuff.

Furyk, Ogilvy, O'Hair coming to Travelers

Jim Furyk, Geoff Ogilvy and Sean O’Hair are the latest golfers to commit the Travelers Championship next week at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.
Furyk is making his fourth appearance, but first since 2001. The 2003 U.S. Open champion, Furyk is the reigning FedEx Cup champion and is ranked 19th in the world golf rankings. His best finish was in 2000 when he finished fourth.
Ogilvy, the 2006 U.S. Open winner, made his only other trip back to River Highlands in 2001, when he finished tied for 22nd. Through nine events in 2011, Ogilvy has finished in the top-25 five times, including a tie for fourth at The Masters, and is ranked 32nd.
O’Hair will make his second trip to TPC River Highlands and first since 2006. He has three top-25 finishes.
The three join already committed players Bubba Watson, Hunter Mahan, Anthony Kim, Nick Watney, Padraig Harrington, Vijay Singh, Tim Clark, Ricky Barnes, Rickie Fowler, David Toms, John Daly and more.

Charity match, junior clinic at New Haven CC

A PGA Tour player competing in the Travelers Championship next week will be conducting a 30-minute junior clinic at New Haven Country Club Wednesday at 2 p.m. It is free to the public.
It will not be known until that day which tour pro will be hosting the clinic. He is also scheduled to sign autographs for 15 minutes after the clinic.
Today, the course is hosting the First Annual NHCC Charity Match. This event will benefit the Travelers Championship "Chip in for Charity" and the PGA Golf Foundation.
The match will feature junior club members turned professionals Evan Beirne and Brett Stegmaier versus current assistant professionals Brent Paladino and Billy Street. All four players have tremendous playing resumes.

Marrello wins Senior PGA in playoff

Fran Marrello of Canaan CC had to go extra holes this time around, but won the 60th Senior Connecticut PGA Championship for the second straight year with a birdie on the sixth hole of a sudden-death playoff at Fox Hopyard GC.
Marrello, who shot an even-par 71 and two-day total of 146, outlasted Ralph Salito (The Club at River Oaks), Bob Kay (Tumble Brook CC), John Paesani (Norwich GC) and Tony Kelley (Wyckoff CC). Marrello also won the event in 2007.

Watney, Duval coming to Travelers tournament

The Travelers Championship announced seven more commitments to the 2011 field Tuesday, highlighted by Nick Watney, David Duval and Aaron Baddeley.
Currently ranked 14th in the Official World Golf Rankings, Nick Watney has seven top-10 finishes this year, including a victory at the WGC Cadillac Championship. Watney will be making his fifth visit to TPC River Highlands in Cromwell for the Travelers Championship June 23-26. His best finish is a tie for ninth in 2005 and 2006.
Duval will make his seventh trip to TPC River Highlands and first since 2003. Duval has 13 career victories, including the 2001 British Open.
Baddeley has four top-10 finishes this year, including a win at the Northern Trust Open back in February.
Tim Clark, J.B. Holmes, Bo Van Pelt and Ryan Moore also committed on Tuesday.
Clark will make his first trip to Cromwell since 2005. He won the 2010 Players Championship and is currently ranked 31st in the world.
Holmes has four top-10 finishes in 11 events this year.
Van Pelt will be making his ninth visit to the Travelers.
Moore has earned two top-five finishes in 2011 and will be making his seventh trip to TPC River Highlands.
