CT Section Junior Players of Year race, part II

On Tuesday, MacKenzie Hawkes of Madison wins her sixth Junior Golf Tour event of the season in the Glastonbury Hills Junior Open with an 11-over-par 83, earning her 100 player of the year points. She now leads in the Girls’ Player of the Year race with a current total of 890.83 over Jenn Whaley of Farmington, who currently has 862.50 points.
Hawkes and Whaley are the only two girls left who still have a shot at player of the year. 150 points will be up for grabs in the Jack Kelly Junior Tournament of Champions September 2, at Shennecossett GC.
Michael Thibodeau of Ellington holds the Boys’ Player of the Year points lead at 426.43. Three others still have a shot: Nathaniel Dong of Glastonbury (388.50 points), Eric Dietrich of Cheshire (373.43 points) and Evan Grenus of Glastonbury (324.50 points).

CT Section Junior Players of Year race


MacKenzie Hawkes of Madison won her fifth CT Junior Golf Tour event of the season Monday, beating Alyssa Lyon in a sudden-death playoff to win the McDermott Junior Invitational at Tallwood Country Club. 

Both Hawkes and Lyon shot 80 in regulation.

With only the Glastonbury Hills Junior Open and the Jack Kelly Junior Tournament of Champions left for Player of the Year Points, Jenn Whaley (830.00 points) and Hawkes (790.83 points) are in a head-to-head competition for the girls’ title. In the boys’ points race, 11 players still have a shot at the title including the only two-time winner on the tour this season, Eric Dietrich of Cheshire.

Rory McIlroy in New Haven

Rory McIlroy made a pitstop en route to the Barclays Classic on Sunday in New Haven to spend time with his girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki at the New Haven Open tennis tournament.

McIlroy, the world's No. 1 golfer "prepped" for the Barclays by hitting some tennis balls at the famous Yale Bowl, courtesy of the New Haven Open.
