Notre Dame Online Network

Notre Dame-West Haven High School has created its own "Notre Dame Online Network" beginning Friday with the web broadcast of the the Notre Dame-Fairfield Prep football game. Athletic events, musicals and other events will periodically be shown on this new internet site, http://www.gogreenknights.com. A full list of events can be found there.
The school is in partnership with Don Boyle, the founder of www.sportingnewsct.com. All of Notre Dame's events will be video webcasts, with current students playing a role in getting these webcasts out to the viewing public.

Wilbur Cross coach on the horizon?

The Wilbur Cross boys' basketball job has been vacant for four months since Jim Reynolds resigned under a cloud of controversy following a 24-1 season.

But it finally looks like his replacement is imminent. Several sources indicate Anthony Hill, the 37-year-old Hamden resident, will likely get the call this week to take over. He is currently the coach at Berlin, where he led the Redcoats to a 11-9 regular-season record in his first and only season and hung in there against Career in the Class L state tournament before falling 68-57 in overtime. Maybe that's where he first got some notice by the powers-that-be in New Haven?

In 2007, Hill led the Notre Dame-Fairfield girls' basketball team to the Class S state tournament finals before falling to SWC rival Kolbe Cathedral. So Hill has more experience at the varsity level than when Reynolds did when he took ovr for Bob Saulsbury in the mid-1990s. But Reynolds had the city connections with the kids at the Farnam House, where he still runs the fall league.

If Hill is the heir apparent, the list of candidats he beat out for the job is impressive, including Jim Rooney and Ed Crisafi.

So why has the process taken so long? I do not have that answer, but many sources close to the situation indicate that current Lyman Hall coach Mike Conner was the overwhelming top choice for the job, but backed out and stayed at Lyman Hall. How that impacted the decision, I do not know, but it has been a few weeks since the first round of interviews were held.

It really is as simple as this: If Superintendent of Schools Dr. Reggie Mayo wants Hill to have the job and is impressed with a one-on-one interview, the job is his. He made the call on both Reynolds and former Hillhouse coach Tom Fleming and current Hillouse coach Kermit Carolina.

So now we wait and see...stay tuned.
